DPD List Information
2. SUBSCRIPTION RULES: Subscription and unsubscription are handled over at http://www.deep-purple.com/mailman/listinfo/dpdigest. If you are having any kind of problem with the list, you can send email to me at dplist@deep-purple.com and I'll take care of you. If I get 3 (or more) "user unknown" or "user does not exist" or other fatal-sounding email replies on a particular address, it's off the list. "Mailbox full" or "timeout connecting to server" messages are normal and to be expected. They trigger no action. Sorry, but I got an Inbox to keep clean, here. 3. VALID TOPICS: Everything I post is automatically on-topic because I'm the list owner and I said so. That being said, I will do all I can to observe the rule of thumb that your contributions should be pretty much on the topic of Deep Purple, former/current member's solo efforts or involvement in other groups, bands/persons current or former members have associated with, or "fan fiction" involving DP. I might let a thread venture out into other areas, but always reserve the right to rein everyone back in and cut off postings on a subject. Screaming Lord Sutch and Little Richard-related posts are always on-topic because Deep Purple owes quite a legacy to these two guys. 4. REQUESTS FOR STUFF: Feel free to post about DP-related stuff you want to trade or requests for DP-related stuff, but conduct that kind of business offline. It's not that I disapprove, it's that I don't want the list to get bogged down as a message board for tape-tradin' hagglers. 5. LIST FORMAT: I send the list out in plain text only, 76 characters per line. Deal with it. I try to send the list our once I got more than 10 good-sized posts. 6. MESSAGE REPLIES: When replying to a message, just include the relevant bits of the message you are replying to to make my job of editing the list tons easier. A good practice to follow is deleting the entire digest in the body of your reply and then copy over a sentence or two from the section you wanted to respond to. I understand that some types of reply may lend themselves more or less to this rule, just keep it in mind when replying. 7. ARGUMENT RULES: Any arguments about which musicians or albums rule over which other musicians need to be have at least one good reason behind them in the message or they risk not being included. (EXAMPLE: "Blackmore rules!" is not sufficient. "Blackmore rules because he played real good on 'Mistreated'!" is better, and has a good chance of making it. "Blackmore rules because he, alone of all guitar players past and future, discovered the truth behind Neapolitan ice cream!" is well-phrased, would be included, but is very weird.) 8. ALBUM REVIEWS: When reveiwing an album, be sure to include a rating from 1-10, with 1 indicating extreme dissatisfaction and 10 indicating a masterpiece. Try to reserve ratings of 10 for those Deep Purple albums which stand out head and shoulders above all other Deep Purple albums. Portions of the review will appear at the appropriate spot in the "Album Reviews" part of the site. If you wish to review a Deep Purple album not represented there, please contact me and I'll see what I can do about it. 8. HOT POSTS: Posts I deem exceptional will be enshrined at the "Fan Stuff" page. 9. CELEBRITY DEATHMATCHES: These come in two forms. The first is one in which a DPD member submits a recommendation for a band, obscure or otherwise, that Deep Purple fans might find interesting for musical, historical, or other reasons. In submitting the recommendation, please include a few reasons why you think the band deserves to be considered by other DP fans. You may also feel free to add to a recommendation. Recommendations can be accessed at the "Celebrity Deathmatch" part of the site. The other type of deathmatches would be fictional descriptions of combat between members of DP and other groups. This being a DP list, the current DP members must at least draw, if not win outright. 10. ART CONTRIBUTIONS: If you have any type of DP-related art that you created yourself, feel free to submit an electronic copy of it to the list. It will be posted to the "Fan Stuff" page. I may have to make alterations to the image with respect to image file size, file format, and/or screen dimensions. (I try to keep images set with a maximum width of 600 pixels.) 11. ARCHIVE: There is an archive at the archive page. Duh. 12. LINKS: Links to DP-related sites and home pages of DPD members (regardless of overall DP-related content) will be provided at the "Links" page. If your subscription request included a non-corporate web page in it you had some kind of involvement with, I probably linked it. 13. COURTESIES TO CONSIDER: Keep in mind that there are all kinds of folks subscribed to the list. The first 100 subscribers included a representative from every inhabited continent and was made up of approximately 30% persons whose first language is not English. The list is a diverse bunch. If you have difficulty understanding slang, words, ideas, expressions, or each other, just let me know and I'll do what I can to help out. |
