Best Album....Burn...Closely followed by Perpendicular !

Best DP member ... Ian Paice....But for stuff outside Purple, it has to be
Glenn Hughes. The guys voice sends shivers down my spine. Now that he seems
to have got his act together, the guy is awesome

Best DP song ..hmmm hard one this..choose any of the following..

                      April
                      Flight Of The Rat
                      Mistreated
                      You Keep On Moving
                      Perfect Strangers
                      Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming

Why is everyone so against JLT ??? Slaves and Masters is not too bad an CD,
a damn sight better than The Battle Rages On , which IMO is the worst
release from Purple .

Non Purple songs .......Gates Of Babylon ..Rainbow
                                  From Now On ..Glenn Hughes
                                  Slide It In..Whitesnake

Having just seen DP for the hmm 7th or 8th time now at Manchester , i
must say how bloody good they were .!!!!!!! Although i wish that they would
surprise us ,once in a while with the set list !!
When they played Anyone's Daughter on the last Blackmoer tour ..i nearly
choked with shock !!!
Sorry to waffle on a bit ..but as this is my first post, i hope you all
wont mind

Steve

Hi

My votes:

1) Best song - When A Blind Man Cries / Smoke On The Water (live)

2) Best Album - Made In Japan
3) Fave band member - Jon Lord / Ritchie Blackmore

Where will the results be published, here on the DPD or on some other
website?

Yeah I know I should read my old DPDs, but c'mon be gentle - I'm
tired...it's been a long day :)

Cheers

Brian

I'd be happy to post the final results on the page, but he's counting the

Why oh why does Mr. Iommi constantly recruit people for B.S. that have some
affiliation with Ritchie in some shape manner or form? This is includes
both band members (Gillan, Dio, Hughes, Powell, Rondinelli, Neil Murray
[Whitesnake]) and including producer (Martin Birch). There's probably more
I'm not thinking of. (I had heard Coverdale and Paice were both approached
at different times) What's up with that anyway?

Maybe B.S. should consider recruiting Spice Girls or members of Hanson....

Hello wondering if anyone on the DPD list had seen the the movie" I know
what you did last summer" ? I am not a horror fan but on my satallite
pay per view they play a clip that contains a version of Hush. Is this
song in the movie? Who sings it? Also wondering if anyone on the list
knows who owns the rights to Deep Purple's music. Did they go the route
of alot of bands and sell their music for one last big payday when it
apppeared the big days were over? Even when bands do this I know they
can get something still for unit sales. Being interested in the business
side as money often destroys bands I wondered if folks like Rod Evans
still recieved even a small amount via this route. Regards John

Please add me to the subscription list for the DPD. My first comment is to
suggest Uriah Heep for the Celebrity Deathmatch. They learned alot
listening to DPs rehersals years ago. I must make this recomendation with
an astrix.....only their first 4 albums qualify or deathmatch status, the
rest are pretty much crap.

[Dean "ed" Webb: I'd have to agree. Uriah Heep went down fast after 1972/3.
Still, they did some great stuff up to their Uriah Heep Live album. I'd add
that to the list of their albums that didn't suck. To be sure, Ken Hensley
always added a good keyboard part and Lee Kerslake could really pound the
skins, but they just didn't have it together after 1973.]

Re: Tony Iommi connection
from Dean Webb: mailto:dplist(at-a-domain-named)geocities.com

My personal theory here is that, back in 1979, Tony Iommi contracted with
Ritchie Blackmore to provide employee-screening services for musicians. He
probably figured that if anybody could stand Blackmore's lineups, he'd do
just fine in Black Sabbath.

That, or Rainbow and Whitesnake tapped into a great vein of talent that
Iommi felt strongly enough to approach himself.

For a humorous spin on these interesting little connections, let me refer
you to a bit I wrote a few months ago at
http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/9935/mixup.html .Hope you enjoy it.

About the ratings on the DP albums so far...

Of the albums that have more than one or two reviews, here's some
information you might find useful or interesting:

Top 5 DP albums:
Made in Japan (10)
In Rock (9.90)
Fireball (9.78)
Machine Head (9.60)
Purpendicular (8.92)

Purpendicular's presence there surprised me. The Mk2 albums up to MIJ I
expected, but _|_ I did not. I predict that years from now, its rating will
appreciate and might even put it on the stature of the old, great Mk2
releases.

Top 5 post-1976 albums:
Purpendicular (8.92)
Abandon (8.11)
Perfect Strangers (7.40)
The Battle Rages On (6.67)
House of Blue Light (5.75)

Clearly, Steve Morse-ified DP is well loved by members of the list. Is this
because die-hard Blackmore fans don't care to sign up for a sub?

It's interesting how there aren't any ravening posts about who is better
than who musically (yet). I've seen them (and probably contributed to them
with my responses) on other lists, but none here. Yet. Are we that cool
about things, or have the people that think (band member here) RULES! just
not yet gotten drawn out in an argument?

Anyway, folks, it's clear. Those top 5 albums are required listening for any
DP fan. If you lack any in your collection, go do a bunch of odd jobs so you
can earn the cash to get them in your sticky little hands WITH ALL SPEED!!!
