Celebrity Deathmatches

Deep Purple is, of course, the greatest rock band in the whole world, ever. To be sure, there are a lot of bands that are almost as good, but none as good or better. Why? Because they're not Deep Purple. (Duh!)

Below are listed a bunch of bands that, if not as good as Deep Purple, are pretty darn close enough in one way or another to be worth a reference. (They would also make a good fight, going for most the rounds, if they ever were in a no-holds-barred celebrity deathmatch, hence the name of the website.) Most are also already in my collection, so I can compare them directly with the DP stuff I got. I've grouped them alphabetically on the pages below and included a few stock graphics to note what kind of music the group played.

I should note that not all my collection is referenced here. If the band was WAY too different from DP, a novelty act, or some other condition like that, I didn't put it down. For instance, I like the Texas country sounds of Guy Clark, the passionate ud playing of Simon Shaheen, and the eerie choral works of Gyorgy Ligeti, but they're pretty much too far removed from the likes of Deep Purple to truly compare with them and rate as a "If you like DP, I'm pretty sure you'll like these guys..." -- type reference. I might reference them one day in another section, but not here or now.
